ABOUT THE EXHIBITION: Transforming the historic first floor of a 100-year-old residence run by the Revolving Museum into a living, multi-room installation, "INHABITED: An Anatomy of Memory, Bloodlines, and Healing" offers visitors an intimate glimpse into the inner world and creative process of artist Valeria H. Huyke. Mapping out human dynamics, ancestral heritage, trauma, and self-reclamation, each room on the floor serves as a distinct emotional and spatial chapter.
One space examines a shifting paternal connection while honoring her Peruvian lineage through vivid visual cues; the kitchen dissects the legacy of a mother defined by her work—exposing how food, body scrutiny, and perfectionism intersected, while claiming space within a maternal dynamic shaped by labor before care; and the primary space transforms into a raw, reflective sanctuary—confronting personal fracture, trauma, and substance recovery to reveal the light that emerges through breakdown. Rather than viewing artwork from a distance, visitors step directly inside the artist's mind, history, and active studio practice.
ARTIST STATEMENT: "This exhibition is an invitation into the raw, unfiltered world where my work comes to life. Working without medium boundaries, I am transforming raw experience by weaving memory, present truth, and future possibility—yesterday, today, and tomorrow—into a physical landscape you can walk through."
ABOUT THE ARTIST: Valeria H. Huyke is a self-taught, Puerto Rican-Peruvian multidisciplinary mixed media artist working across different mediums—including painting, textile design, performance, and sculptural installation, among a broad spectrum of evolving practices. Her work centers on transforming raw, reclaimed, and upcycled materials into tactile, narrative environments. Across her practice, she investigates the nuances of the female experience, spatial reclamation, identity, and the raw mechanics of human connection.
